How long does it take to get a U.S. passport?
Routine passport processing is 4-6 weeks through your local post office or county clerk. Unfortunately the processing times are not guaranteed. If there are any issues with your documents or you are not eligible for a passport, the process will take much longer. We often recommend travelers to apply for their passports as early as possible.
Fast passport processing starts at 3 week turnaround. This is often called expedited service through the post office. According to the Department of State website, expedited rush passport processing through the post office ranges from 2-3 weeks. Again, these processing times are not guaranteed as any issues with your application will cause delays. Additional fees will apply for expedited applications. The U.S. Department of State charges an additional $60 for all expedited passport applications.
