New Government Requirements for Your Birth Certificate to Obtain a Passport
Good morning everybody!
As of April of 2011, the U.S. Department of State will require the full names of the applicant’s parent(s) to be listed on all certified birth certificates to be considered as primary evidence of U.S. citizenship for all passport applicants, regardless of age. Read more about the birth certificate requirements on the U.S. Department of State’s website.
If you are applying for a new U.S. passport for yourself or for a child, and the applicant needing the passport is leaving the country within 2 weeks, Fastport Passport can help.
You can see all of our simple instructions for expediting a new child’s passport, or a new adult’s passport within 14 days of international travel. Anyone submitting an application for a new U.S. Passport is required by federal law to submit an original U.S. Birth Certificate or an original Naturalization Certificate. If you do not have your original proof of citizenship, the Department of State has a list of acceptable alternatives.
If you have any questions about your passport or the documents you will need to submit in order to obtain a new passport, please contact us at any of our branches at any time on Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm, or visit our website and speak live to one of our expert passport expediters for online help!
Happy travels!
