How To Pack For A Family Trip To Hawaii
Ahh, Hawaii. The sea, the sand and the … everything. We know that you already feel the warm sand between your toes, that icy cool drink in your hand with the small umbrella, you can even already smell the salty air. But before anything else, you need to pack. It’s a big job but somebody’s got to do it.
Packing can be difficult, especially when you are packing for your whole family. Oftentimes we tend to forget small details because there is so much to be done and there is just little ole you. We got your back with these tips:
Make A List
Don’t get too excited just yet, sit yourself down. Take time to make a list of the things that you will need while in Hawaii. List down essentials first, like toothbrush, tampons, shaver, etc. Although most of the time, hotels already provide toiletries and towels. If you have children with you, make sure you list down diapers, milk, bottles or whatever they use on a daily basis. Know that traveling with children will mean there is no packing lightly, especially toddlers and infants.
Contact Your Hotel
Know the things that the hotel will provide while you are staying with them. Do they provide toiletries? Do they have a laundry service? Can you request for hot drinking water when needed? Is there a grocery nearby? Will they provide floaters for the kids? Knowing this will help you determine what to pack.
Start Packing
Now that you have a list and know what the hotel will provide, you can actually do the packing. First, you and your family can pick the clothes that you will be wearing during your stay in Hawaii. You can brief them on how many days you will be staying there so that they can pick how many sets of clothes to wear. If you plan to buy clothes locally, you can pack 2-3 sets of clothes per person.
Pick Your Luggage
Now that you have picked your clothes, you can pick your luggage. Choose a luggage that is expandable. Expandable luggage can be very useful if you are to go shopping because you won’t need to buy a new luggage just to accommodate your souvenirs.
Save Space
Fold your clothes neatly to save more space in the bag. More space means you can put more things in a single bag. And it’s Hawaii – your main clothing apparels are bikinis, one-piece swimsuits and swim trunks. So it’s fairly light packing for the adults in the family. As for the little children, they have more things. You need to make space for diapers, bottles and a sterilizer if they are bottle-fed.
Choose shoes that you can use to and from Hawaii. Some comfy sandals, perhaps. Do not bring shoes that are bulky or that you have to pack in the bag. Use a pair of shoes that you can use in any kind of situation. You can use the space in your bag for other things.
Protect Your Screen
Make sure to pack a trusted sunscreen for you and your children. A sunscreen with Spf 50+ is good for the very sunny Hawaii weather. A good tan is a must but never forget to put on sunscreen to protect your skin, especially the children’s skin, from the harmful UV rays.
Secure Your Things
Now that you are packed, do not forget to lock your luggage. Most luggage come with a built-in lock. It does no harm to keep your things secured after you check them in the airport. Our baggage go through many things before we get it back so better lock it in so that no items spill out and go missing.
Go through your list again. Tick off the things that are already in the bag so as not to forget anything.
What else? Nothing! You are packed and ready to go. All you have to worry about is how much fun you are going to have with your family in Hawaii. You can forget about day dreaming because soon your day dreams will become reality. You will be in those sandy beaches and not worrying about what you forgot to bring.
