Many kids and students are going overseas this summer for study abroad or student exchange programs. If your son or daughter is traveling internationally to study abroad this summer, they may need a new child’s passport (15 and younger), or a new adult passport (16 and older).
Even if your child of 15 or younger has had a United States Passport in the past, they must apply for a brand new child’s passport if their passport has expired. If your child is 16 or older, and has an expired United States Passport, they must apply for a brand new adult passport.
If your child of 15 years or younger needs a new passport to travel internationally within the next 2 weeks, you can use Fastport Passport to expedite the passport in time for your child’s trip. To apply for a new child’s passport, just follow these simple instructions. Both of the child’s parents must be present at the local County Clerk’s or Post Office to sign the DS-11 form, or Application for a New U.S. Passport, on behalf of the child. If one parent cannot be present to sign, or is deceased, please see our previous blog post on how to mitigate this situation.
If your child is 16 or older and needs a new adult passport, just follow these instructions on how to obtain the passport in 14 days or less. If the child is 16, one parent must be present with a valid U.S. Driver’s License, Non-Driver’s ID, or U.S. Passport, to sign the Passport Application with the child. If the child is 17 or older, no parental presence is needed.
If you need a new or renewed passport expedited to you, need to add pages to your current passport, replace a lost or stolen passport, or have any other question regarding your passport book, passport card, visa, or international driver’s license, please do not hesitate to call us Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm.
