International Driving Permit
The International Driving Permit is also referred to as the IDP. The IDP is a document that provides the important information from your drivers license into translations of eleven different languages. These languages are: English, French, Italian, Swedish, German, Chinese, Arabic, Spanish, Japanese, Russian and Portuguese. You must be at least 18 years old in order to apply for the IDP. You will also need to have to passport-size photographs signed on the back. You will also need a valid drivers license. This means it is not revoked, suspended, or expired.

The IDP is recognized in over 150 countries as an official document. You will need to carry this document along with your current valid US Drivers License. It is valid throughout South America, with the exception of Brazil and Uruguay. You will need to contact AAA for the Inter-American Driving Permit if you wish to drive in those countries. The IDP is often required when renting a car overseas as well. This document will help you to be mobile while traveling overseas.

The requirements for an IDP are fairly simple. Review our quick checklist below and you can soon be driving overseas. International Driving Permit processing times are usually between 2-4 business days, (plus shipping).
